Welcome to Beyond Strength! It is said that intention without action is merely a dream; or we must ‘put action to our words’. BeyondStrength.org is putting action to intention and making dream become reality.
From leading a fire team of four Defenders to over 2300 enlisted Airmen, our founder has led, followed, triumphed, and failed. He helped develop and influence enlisted leaders around the world, and spent his entire working life serving in the Profession of Arms. His charismatic personality and oft unsettling level of transparency entertains and motivates audiences, yet speaks to brokenness and vulnerability that runs deep. He has found faith, friends, and fitness staples to recovery and well-being. Beyond Strength is one mechanism through which he finds personal healing by sharing life experiences (good and bad) and inspiring others to serve, lead, and live stronger lives…inside and out.
Beyond Strength was founded by an Iraq Campaign veteran and career public safety professional who has saved lives, fought for others’ lives, and fought for his own life. He’s witnessed the best and worst of humanity. Like others in that line of work, he’s seen and experienced things no person should ever see or experience. Beyond Strength was borne out of weakness…and necessity. The necessity to come to terms with significant personal demons and the need to share what’s been learned; to give back and to pay it forward; to be a voice for those struggling or unable to be heard; to find purpose and meaning in personal weakness and mistakes, and add value to others’ lives by leveraging strengths such as courage, respect, service, and leadership. This project is a motivational ministry for life, leadership, and fitness. It is as much cathartic as designed to be educational, inspiring, challenging, helpful, and entertaining to the reader.
The goal with Beyond Strength is to help people become stronger in spite of their weaknesses – or perhaps as a result of them; to learn to forgive oneself and to forgive others; to use all of life’s experience to make better leaders and followers. It is intended to add value to your life and contribute to your emotional, social, spiritual, and physical well-being. It’s a sort of philosophical exercise. But if all it does is add a smile, chuckle, deeper thought about a subject, or an understanding that you are not alone and things could always be worse, then we will be happy, indeed.
Harold R. Martin wrote “There comes a day when we wake up to the fact that we have been wasting our time and have not left the world richer for our being here.” Beyond Strength is an attempt to make the world richer in some small way.
